One of the horses I ride often leans heavily on the bit, what can I do to improve his balance?

As a dressage rider, my first suggestion would be to half-halt and bring your horse back off the bit, but don't pull because that can lead to a tug-of-war and your horse will win. Check your own balance and make sure you're not too far forward, as well, because that can shift your horse's weight forward, causing him to lean on the bit. Also--because I've seen people try this a lot & seen this fail a lot--a bigger bit isn't the answer. And finally, take your time. You said the horse does this often, so it may take quite a bit of time to fix this. Honestly, it's kind of hard to answer this question without seeing you ride & knowing a little more about how you & your horse work together. I hope this helps! :)
