Short answer : of course !! Competing is just like everyday riding, but in a different setting. Everyday training can be enriched with mental preparation, because there are other sources of stress for a rider outside performance itself : riding a young horse, jumping higher, going for a trailride by yourself, trying cross country for the first time, getting back in the saddle after a fall, or even just achieving a new exercise... You tell me ;)
