I have been very fortunate to have had the opportunity to balance school and riding since I was in middle school. In a way, it is all I know! I feel the two commitments complement each other, although of course it requires sacrifice. During the school year I don't get to ride everyday, and I miss out on events at school - but this is a choice I made. I think my riding motivates my studies because I know I can do well and look forward to riding and competing. My studies also often provide an escape for me mentally from competition. I am not a superhuman, though, and like everyone else I can get a little overwhelmed with work.
I am lucky I get to do both, but it is definitely a delicate balance! Thanks for the question.
