What are your tips to keep a horse from kicking in the trailer and protect his lower hock?
Have you tryed hobbles
I would try a Natural Horsemanship expert. There is a reason why your horse does what he does. It is worth a try.
Yes, but I am looking for something with maybe more padding or a harder shell to protect from impact, like in tendon boots, dressage boots...
In terms of hocks, lots of trailering boots cover the hocks.
Thanks! I will probably try the boots again, but got discouraged last summer after he destroyed a $200 pair in a 30 min drive... As for the sedation, he is already on a strong herbal product 48 hours before the transport and I usually sedate him for the way home (I can't on the way to the show because it tests positive) and it doesn't work😡 As anyone found good hock boots?
I've to had trailoring boots on my 2 but I do no some people sidate theres sometimes depending how bad it is or so herb or certain supplements
Thanks! But I actually travel 3hours+ at a time and don't want to risk anything since he usually tolerates his bandages and he injured badly his hock kicking (had to rest 3 months)
Some horses kick a lot more with trailer bandages on, and actually hurt themselves more when bandaged.. if you aren't trailering very far you could try without.
