The combined noseband consists of two parts: a French and a removable noseband. The two parts are adjusted separately. The French noseband therefore reduces the opening of the mouth without blocking the joint. The noseband further blocks the mouth and jaw assembly and allows the bit to remain perfectly in place. The horse can also not pass his tongue over the bit.
As with the German noseband, be careful not to over tighten the noseband (and any noseband in general) at the risk of hampering or even blocking the breathing of your horse. Set too low, the noseband can also crush the nasal cartilage of the horse and cause lesions. It is one of the most common nosebands.
