9 steps heel to toe for canter poles and 4 for trot poles
Should be about four and a half feet for trot poles and then for canter poles it is four yards to every stride and one yard for take off and another for landing for a three stride distance should be 14 yards. a four stride distance should be 18 yards, A five stride distance should be 22 yards and so on
I do 4 steps between each pole and it really makes them stretch
Generally for trotting poles I put 5 foot-on-foot steps to really make my mare stretch. For canter poles I would usually put 6 large footsteps in between the poles, but this may vary depending on the size of your horses stride. Hope this helps!
