I like hay in the winter because it's warmer, but it gets dirtier alot faster. Shavings will always be my favorite in the other seasons!
I totally agree! Shavings I feel like are way easier to pick through to get out the pee and poop.
My family uses bedding pellets. They are amazing to pick through and they work really well. They start out as pellets like grain would look, but as the horse walks around through the night, they crush down and turn to a more powdery kind of bedding. I love them, since I have to muck stalls in the morning, and they absorb urine really well. I would really recommend them!
I like sawdust for my mare that drinks a lot of water. My other two have shavings.
Hope this helped,
I prefer shavings because it looks and smells nice, super absorbant, is easy to clean, and isn't dusty!
I definitely think shavings is the best option!
Or you can do a mix of both, shavings are good because they absorb liquids and smell good and I've heard some people also bed with straw or something on top of the shavings so the horses can nibble on the seeds from it
Shavings hands down between it and hay. I find it's cleaner. Letters are also really good and easier to store and tke to shows. I soak more for a few hours before putting it out. Seems weird but that is how they work
I really like pellet bedding! It comes in pellet form but after about two days gets worn down into really soft almost saw dust like powder. It's super absorbent as well
I think shavings is the best for your horse!
