Any recommendations for a smoother bareback ride? My horse has a very bumpy and exaggerated stride and I would like the most comfortable ride for her possible when riding bareback.

Maybe try a bareback pad
If you want to be smooth, let your body move a little. It's kinda either look nice or have a nice smooth ride.
Thank you that helps a lot! @rhiannajayne
Firstly it's about correct position, it makes it so much easier to sit to if you have a correct position! Tuck your bum underneath you so your back is straight, I used to hate riding bareback because I'd just bounce everywhere! As soon as I learnt the correct position I sat much better! :) all about core strength. After that just practice practice practice! Yes I do agree with Morgan to keep the sessions short! Good luck!
You could try a bareback pad they have all kinds!
Use a bareback pad!
Thank you all! I do have a bareback pad but I've only ridden barebacj a few times and this is the first horse I've ever tried it on. I guess it's a learning experience! My horse isn't showing signs of pain so that's good but I'll try what Morgan Heslop said(:
Hi Megan,
Maybe you could try a bareback pad! I heard they are great and really do their work!

Hope it's usefull! Stephanie
Maybe try using a bareback pad, that will probably make it much more comfortable!
I know it may not be the answer you're after, but it could be a matter of sticking it out for a while and learning to sit it bareback. As far as comfort for your horse while you're figuring it out, use a bareback pad, keep your sessions short and massage before and after. Sorry I couldn't be more help!
I have found I am able to sit trot or ride trot under saddle perfectly fine, with or without stirrups but when I go to bareback there are no improvements, Sumi F
Thank you Sumi F, I do have a bareback pad although I still bounce around a lot and I've been mostly working on sitting trot in the saddle before I go back to bareback.
I would recommend a pad that is specifically for barebacking. They come in different colors and have an attached girth.
