When I'm taking my horse out of his box he usually starts troting and then cantering and runs away to the pasture, what should I do to prevent that from happening?

Heya , we have 5 horses that we take out in the mornings and the last one always did this too us! So we started using food re-enforcement, found this distracted him long enough to get him to his paddock and behind the gate to take off the halter.... have cut up carrots in your pocket and pretty much give little bits as you walk- so then they are focused on just you getting the treats :)
You could try to put the lead rope over his nose it helps with a bit more control
Hey I normally have this problem coming into spring and when the mare are in season. I normally walk my horse out in his bridle for more control and to be safe. You can also get headcollars for this. I would also advise walking your horse out more in hand like around the yard or in the turn out fields. Hope this helps😊
