I ride a 17.2, he is not keen on my long spurs, i was thinking of getting him some ball spurs. Do you think this would help?
He is rather strong towards a fence bigger than 1.40

I have the soft touch spurs from Dover and the horse I ride prefers them to any others. I would recommend them 100%
maybe don't use ball ones or long ones use rubber because its much better than those other ones
If he absolutely needs spurs, get some smaller ones, with no sharp edges and no pointy ends. The bigger the ball and shorter the spur, the better. As for the jumping approach, try maybe to approach in a more "covering" canter, as the horse might need more momentum to clear the jump.
