Try to make sure that you build up ab muscle because it makes up for back weakness. After an injury your body part cannot get back to where it was before strength wise so it needs to be made up for by other muscles

Ah, that stinks! Well, back to the drawing board lol. Could you try cycling? I know it works on your legs as well as your core. What about Pilates or yoga? Both of those can work on all parts of your body and don't really put too much pressure on any one body part depending on what you're doing.

I would suggest starting out with walking/running. It's a simple exercise that you can build on, and it really helps to increase your endurance, core and leg muscles.
