I had the same exact issue with my horse, and indeed, it was from him being unbalanced! Just work on keeping him/her balanced and supple. :)
Indeed if he's that tall and young, he probably is still growing a bit which may cause the balance porblems ;)
Thank you! Yes I think balance could be the problem, since he is also really big (1.75 m) and new to it. Definitely gonna work on it :)
Horses that change canter often have balance issues. He is probably very sensitive and must feel when your move your seat a bit.
The first thing to do is to do flat work, work the canter on straight lines. Then you can add poles and work like if you were doing a jumping course. When he really is stable with the poles; do the same with small jumps.
Depending on the horse, it will take a certain time and you will have to be very precise in everything you ask.
Any ideas how to make clear to him I don't want him to do this 😅
He's young and gets excited when I jump him which is fine, but whenever he changes real quick before a jump I lose 'seeing' the distance which is really annoying.
