Lead your horse (or get someone else to lead it) at a trot on a hard surface. (Concrete etc) because grass or sand will hide the smallest lameness. And get someone to watch. Trot in a triangle shape:)
Walk your horse with no tack (just a halter) by hand on a flat area and have a knowledgeable horse person watch to see if they see limping, etc.
