You really need to do a lot of ground work with your horse before you tie him up. Make sure they know how to give to pressure. Then make sure they can stand directly tied. After that they shouldn't have any issues with cross ties. You really kind of need to let them figure it out a little. That's if you are meaning that they need to learn how to be tied. If they are being naught and trying to break the ties you need to still do a lot of ground work and show them that they need to respect you and what you do to them.
