Ask @vincentlahalle : Do you think that retired race horses can become good sport horses?
Yes if they havent raced so much
Absolutely. Repurposed horse’s can be amazing. Look at the Retired Race Horse Program (RRP). They have tons of success stories to motivate anyone questioning this, also.
Of course they can!! Since they retire when they are young ( when they are 4 years old) they still have a lot of time to learn new things. I have a few horses that have turned out to be very good jumpers.
Just look at how many are turning up in high level competitions. Boyd Martin in particular shows many ottbs. If you know what lines to look , and have an eye for conformation there are so many horses out there that would make too sporthorses. I myself, am partial to stormcat lines. But A.P.Indy, Damascus, Mr. Prospecter etc, a lot of those lines are commonly found in the pedigrees of top thoroughbred sport horses that came from the track. In fact, if I remember correctly, Zenyattas son Cosmic One is actually being retrained for an eventing or jumping career through the RRP
yes def. many ppl have ottbs. i guess it depends on how old ur horse is but usually the only reason the race horses arent on the track anymore is bc they arent fast enough
Hi Scott,

Definitely yes. I have many examples that proves it...
