What you want for pleasure is a relaxed, supple, and responsive horse with good cadence. Your horse needs to readily yield to contact and make smooth transitions. Brent Graef and Ken McNabb are well versed in ranch versatility, I would go look at some of the things they suggest. A good source for methods and general advice would be articles from AQHA Professional Horsemen (like the previously mentioned Ken McNabb). If your horse is responsive and yields well, it makes reining easier. Reining involves lots of spins, circles, and transitions, so make sure your horse is able to keep on the bend. It's a lot of work to teach a horse new things, so take it slow!
