I moved to a new barn and they tack up and groom my horse for me. I know this sounds stupid but I'm kind of shy to ask if I can do it myself. Do you have any tips? Would it be weird if I did ask?

No ask
Of course not! They would probably be glad that you want to as long as you know how to they would probably encourage you too:)
no no no you should definitely ask. it's not as if you don't appreciate it, because it's kind of them but if you want to do it yourself it is your horse so go ahead
it's not weird, it's your horse
It's not weird to ask if you can tack up. The first time they might watch you groom and tack your house up but when once they know you can do it safely and well they're won't be any problem.
You are probably paying an extra fee per month on top of your board for this service. I personally think it's important to do this yourself although it's nice to have the help during shows when there is so much extra prep. Don't be shy! If you don't ask for what you want you will. Ever get it!
No you should tack up your own horse anyway it helps you to bond with then and makes you quicker and shows to tack and untack yourself if you are running late.
Definitely not weird! I do it all the time. I would just go up to them and say "excuse me, do you mind if I tack up my horse myself? Thank you!" As someone who grooms for others on a daily basis, I always appreciate someone that tacks up their own horse.
It wouldn't be weird at all! By offering to do it yourself, you're showing them how committed you are to horses and it shows your experience! Furthermore, I'm sure they'd appreciate it, since it gives them less work to do.
What's the worst thing that can happen by asking? Worst that could happen is that they say no, but it doesn't sound like they'll have any reason to say no.
Go for it! :D
Go for it!!
No, you should definitely ask. Grooming and tacking up your own horse creates a better bond and relationship. And I'm sure they wont mind doing less work;)
Don't be shy. Just ask if you can help them, they'd be happy if you want to help. That's what good riders are. I hope this helps you, I'm glad that I can help 😊 (Sorry if it's bad)
