How do I desensitize my thoroughbred? He was neglected for a year and I’m the first one he’s shown any interest in and the first one he relaxes around but he is head and ear shy.

And remember that when he lets you do something more than you did it the last time, walk away or if he is comfortable with you giving him treats, give him a treat
I would take him in a round pen or a small arena and take really small steps. Keep doing things that he is uncomfortable with a little bit at a time until he is comfortable with it. Rewarding him with treats will probably help a lot.
Patience is huge. He’ll come around in time...but sometimes it feels like forever. My OTTB is 29 and has lived a lovely life....but still will not let me touch his ears without a fight lol!
Lots of patience, every tb I've been around was head shy & just taking your time and not rushing it, eventually they begin to trust you
approach and retreat. find his limit, push it just a little, reward and repeat. and walking away from the situation is a huge reward.
