How do people manage handling strong/lively horses coming out of box rest?

Let him loose in your arena so he can get all his sparks out and then start slowly by only flatting and before lunge him
In the beginning, sedation. Especially after tendon injuries you don't want the horse to start jumping around after box rest. It's dangerous for both horse and handler. After a couple times we bring the sedation down. If the horse is still fresh we walk with a concord leader or chain.
lots of ground work
