Have you tried a D ring copper bit?
It takes 2 to pull.
Thanks everyone there’s some great ideas to try which will help me be able to be lighter in the hand so not having to fight with him!
Need to really look at going back and polishing some basics training
The saying goes riders pull horses resist
If his leaning on your hands or your arms are sore for trying to bring him back
Bits nose bands aren’t going to fix a horse that in his language is trying to understand what you want from him- don’t make it more painful for him
It’s not just stopping the neck you have to stop and slow the body of the horse also
Please rethink and good luck
I use a kimblewick with my guy that has the same problem, just gives the extra control and he doesn’t like leaning on it so he doesn’t do it anymore.
Hi Laura. I use a sprenger lock snaffle when my horses lean. It looks in the mouth when the horse isn't soft and is loose when they are soft.
Theres lots of bits nowadays, i love bomber bits, so if you just look at the mechanics of the bit you can figure out if it will help or not. Tongue pressure drops the head (plates, French link etc), hanging, fixed rein attachment (like a kimblewick) and bar pressure (nutcracker action) lift, rollers (sometimes) prevent locking, full
cheeks help with steering :)
Pro trainer? Runs along the gag line but not as strong, copper plate mouth piece with copper rings. Super for heavy horses to lift off front end. Worked super for a park back I had when I was 12. She was soft on the flat but gave me good lift for jumping
Maybe full cheek snafle slow twist
Plastic rubber two ring. My favourite bit of all time. Gives you enough leverage to slow them down but isn’t too harsh
4 ring gag with french link maybe. or a waterford mouthpiece- the poll pressure is designed to lower the head
training. gadgets and bigger bits will not help except cover up the issue for a short period of time. then the issue will be worse and you'll have to find a stronger bit again.
kimblewick or maybe think about a stronger noseband?
