If you grain him I would get a flax seed supplement. Gives them a good, healthy coat and puts weight on!
Buy some alfalfa cubes and soak them in water while you ride and feed them after. It adds some extra food to their diet and fattens them up
I have used purina sr feed and beet pulp to add weight for MN winters. Then make sure they have plenty of quality hay at all times.
I always give my horses, who have trouble keeping weight on, vegetable oil in with their feed. It is the best thing I have tried and works wonders! Hope this helps!
Hi Ciara! As stated by Molly it’s important that they have access to hay at all times and especially if they don’t have much pasture. A supplement high in protein is great for their condition and a fat supplement also, hope this helps!
I have the same problem! I like to use a supplement high in protein and fat
Always allow him to have access to hay or good pasture and feed hard feeds little and often. Oil is good way to feed fat in small amounts so is worth adding to feed. Also ensure you are rugging him correctly :)
