What’s the best way to build up muscle on a horse after they’ve been out of work for a while?
Calm and condition, long and low work, uphill and downhill work if accessible, lungeing
A lot of trotting will help along with cavaleties and hill work if you have a hill you can do that on will build up their hind end muscles. Good luck:)
Lunging and slowly adding longer rides. For example start with only trotting 10 minuets total for a day or two then and another 5. Depends on why they were out. This is what i do for injurys
In hand waking and hacking, I used to walk my boy 2 hours a day in hand whilst he was coming back into work 1 hour in morning and 1 hour at night , after he started being more comfortable with that I the started hacking to build stamina then I started school work
