My horse does the same thing... so annoying! What I have tried is using the lead rope with the chain over her nose and before I walk into the barn I shake the lead rope so she knows the chain is there. I brought her in and she was totally fine. Also, I’m not sure if this would work but I know when my horse is about to bolt (she gets very antsy and starts to pace) so maybe before they have the chance to bolt, you bring them out so it’s YOUR choice to leave, not theirs. Then you could bring them back in and try again. I’d try the first one though because I’m not sure if the second would actually work or if you would benefit from it (i used it for trailering so maybe it would hav e the same effect for cross ties?) Good luck!
