I normally make a priority of what I want in a horse. Like vet check for me is highly important, then confidence, current level, age and price. Then I prioritise what’s the most important and rare them from 1-5. 1 being most important. Then when I try horses I see which horses fit my priorities. I also see which horse I fit with best. Which one feels natural and not forcing me to ride to different. Which horse likes my hands, and most of all which one I feel confident riding.
Most people just go and ride the horse but you should really ask if you can stay a while and lead it around and you be the one to tack up and ride and tack of and all just to not only be on the saddle also on the ground with the horse . Also ask about injuries and get a vet to check over it before buying . Bring someone experienced with u for a second opinion on it to
