Wet the mane first then braid. I usually wash my horse before I braid so the mane is wet. Also gay a braiding belt and do not be embarrassed to ask for help and or tips. Rule of thumb is that the mane should be the size of the comb or hand when placed sideways, if the mane is longer you need to pull it. If your horse has no mane, cut it, but cut it very carefully. You should usually have about 35-40 braids in their mane and it has to be on the left side.
Hope this helps!
