My horse wears a sweet itch rug in the summer, but he gets pretty hot in it, and since sweat also causes more bugs to come, would it be useful to clip my horse and maybe just some places?

I’m thinking of clipping the part of his back where the saddle sits, and the spot underneath the girth, since he sweats a lot there. Maybe a lighter fly rug for in the stables, but I don’t know if that’s enough protection for the sweet itch..
I would say this is a good idea. If your horse doesn't do much work then I'd consider getting a lighter blanket for the time being
