Just like every athlete, you need to warm-up. I recommend 5-7 minutes of warm-up before riding, regardless the discipline.
Physical preparation is essential, I like to start with cardio training.
You need to train your joints and your muscles, to be supple and more effective.

You need to be careful with your food, to don't eat between meals.
