Proper lunge cavesson and nothing else. I don't condone the use of the side reins/draw reins/any "systems" as most, if not all, have very little give and can do a lot more harm than good. If I want to work my horses a bit harder than lunging, I'll use a bridle, surcingle, and long lines to ground drive/long line them.
Pessosa’s should be forbidden to use, can’t believe people still use them it encourages the horse the engage their hind end in the wrong manner. In order for the horse to “connect” his hens legs hit the pessosa making his hind end up and head come down, so you’re telling you’re horse it can’t lengthen his stride at all ? I lunge with side reins and that’s all.
My horse likes to play on the lunge, so the pessoa isnt the safest for him, but it was my go to before I got him
I lunge without any tack on often just to get my horse moving, but if I am looking for something shorter and more of a workout I use the Pessoa. It engages their hind end and makes them work.
