How can you keep yourself balanced when your cantering?
Work without stirrups, it becomes natural to be able to sit deeper in the saddle to balance yourself
Try to ride more on the thighs, lean a little forward (not like a jockey), and move your hips with the horse. If you have to, while you’re learning, exaggerate the movement until you find a comfortable, balanced motion with your horse. It took me a year to find a comfortable motion, so don’t be discouraged if you can’t find it right away :)
Hi Maddie, what helps me to stay balanced in the canter is to move with the horse and to be sure you’re not leaning too far to one side. Especially around corners, make sure you aren’t leaning too far to the inside otherwise you’ll be off balanced.
Hope this helps!
