I’ve been having a bit of difficulty getting a nice balanced stride going around courses, the horse I’m riding keeps switching between trot and canter, do you have any advice?🙂

Hi. I would suggest that you work on your contact with your horse. Do normal start stop exercises. Start, walk and stop. Walk, trot and stop. It will help alot with your contact with the horse and with discipline. It should sort out your problem.
Thank you so much! I’ll be sure to try that out today 🙂
A balanced, light seat and constant strong leg contact can help keep your horse at a canter. If you struggle with that, I suggest carrying a crop with you, but not neccessarily using it. Sometimes the crop just changes the mental state of the horse without even using it on them. Use it if your comfortable, but rely on your leg. If the reaction you receive from the horse is too dramatic, you can always drop it. Once you get cantering, I find that counting my strides out loud to myself keeps the strides consistent and it keeps me from pushing or pulling back. The key is to choose a rhythm and stick with it throughout the couse. Good luck! :)
