What was the best decision you have made relating to horses/riding?
I would say deciding to lease my pony. We were hesitant bc we didn’t know if she was going to stay crazy, or calm down some and turn into a great show pony. Ultimately I am very happy we choose to lease her, because she has calmed down and turned into a phenomenal pony.
What are some tips to seeing the perfect distance?
I count the strides up to my jump, so I go, “1, 2, 1, 2...” and then when I get to the distance that feels good I squeeze and go over the jump. It has worked for me really well with my horse who really needs a strong squeeze. Counting makes it much clearer in my head, not counting confuses me as to when I need to squeeze.
Do you want to work in the equine world when you are older or would you rather have a different job and ride as a “hobby” and why?
I personally would choose it as a hobby. I still want it to be a huge part of my life, but I need to have a steady job so I can afford it. It would be my dream to turn pro and own my own farm, but so many people try and fail, so I would want to take the safe route. I would still want to be at the barn a lot, and own a horse and show, but I need more in my life than horses. But having a good job with a steady income, means I can do more as an adult amateur.
