Do you have IHSA experience, and do you have any tips, more specifically for the hunters?
I’ve been showing IHSA for four years, I love it! Unfortunately you are really riding fro the judges, and they really look at your body and your look. They like good contact with your rein, and a smile doesn’t hurt. Listening to the horse handler is definitely beneficial for you.
What are the best exercices to shape your horse back?
Depends on exactly what you mean. If wanting to muscle their top line and shoulders, trotting uphill work does wonders. Just like with people, getting them to do movements and exercises that you might not usually do, or know affects that area.
Ask Pierre Fleury : would you suggest polo wraps or bell boots for trailering?
For short distance (around and hour) trailer rides, I don’t tend to dress my horse in anything. For longer ones (long than an hour or two), I dress them in a cooler, shipping boots or standing wraps which are quilted pads held on with polo wraps. It’s up to you as well, if you know your horse would bang around much, you might not need much. However, you will still want to support their legs for longer journeys.
What is the first thing I should look at when I start leasing?
What is expected of the person using the horse, and what’s expected of the owner. Make sure you only take on what you can handle. Always get a vet check/soundness exam before getting into any horse to save yourself. Also, make sure that the horse is well suited for you, your skill level, and what you’re wanting to accomplish in the time you will have with that horse.
Have you made friends thanks to horse riding, and why are these friends special compared to others?
From my experience, horse friends really understand the value of hard work, trust and helping others. My horse friends are their for me with no judgement, horse related or not. Something about being around horses gives you something more as a person.
Ask Pierre Fleury : How do I stay motivated after a bad fall?
From my experience, and I think this works great, if you’re not going to the hospital, take a breather, then get back on. Try your best to understand why you fell off, bad jump, a spook etc. then try to be confident, and recreate the senario if you feel safe doing so.
Why do some people give their horses water mixed with their feed?
Some feed comes compact, and expand with moisture, like beet pulp. It is vital to soak these feeds before the horse consumes it, otherwise, it can and will expand in their throat and stomach. This causes choke and colic.
