Do you know the best way to teach a mare a few tricks? Preferably kiss, hug and smile.
Smile is a similar start but instead of putting the treat to your lips you tickle their muzzle and any time they lift their lips give them a treat till their lips get higher and higher
[email protected] is it necessary for a grand prix rider to see distances 5 or more strides before the fence, moreover is the ability to see good distances talent or a work result?
I’m not the person you’re asking, however all riders (or definitely most), can see distances multiple strides out. Even before turning corners, riders can see one or two distance. Some people are naturally more capable to develop an eye, and others will gain their eye with work. It’s hard to develop but it’s something that develops with the more you ride and the more you jump
How your horses are doing after colic surgery? My horse was in surgery at 4 years old and is now 7 and finally I feel like that he is making some kind of progress in dressage!
A close friend of mine had a horse who went through two colic surgeries within a year. This horse was a show jumper doing up to 140 and competing every two weeks. The horse is back in work and jumping back up to 135 classes well. Obviously my friend took some time to build strength and fitness but the horse is great. We have a good vet who’s a colic specialist so it turned out good
What do you advise to do when your coach doesn't seem to focus on her more advanced students? I am worried that my coach is more focused on other things at the barn because there are so few of us that are ready to compete.
Remember, communication is key! She might not even realise she’s neglecting your riding cause she has so many other things on her plate. At the end of the day, we’re only human and we all make mistakes but just talk to her about what you want and where you want to do. But also trust that she will assist you towards your goals. It sucks for a trainer when their students don’t trust them.
