Do you know a website that sells reliable dressage/showjumping horses?
I dont clip my horse my horse in the winter, but she gets so hot during the spring/summer that I'm having to clip her now. Do you know any good quality clippers?
Andis cattle clippers w T 84 blade for body and ceramic 10 blade for face and legs. Keep them cleaned and oiled and they will last forever. Happy Trails!
How to deal with a really strong, fast horse during showjumping competitions? 💗🐎
Maybe trailer him to some local shows w/o showing and practice some relaxation. Suit up, hang out all day, practice the warmup. Let him watch everyone else and you can focus on him w zero pressure.
What to do when our horse refuses to drink outside?
If you’re stuck at a show w no molasses in your kit- buy a cola or apples or apple juice. Ive tossed a handful of grain in a bucket of water while they watched. That grain splash “effect” worked for a horse at that show. Another of our show horses, we actually packed water from home. You can always prepare your bucket of magic water before you “need” it after the class and try it out.
I have a horse going to his first show ever, he’s 9 and still quite green. Do you have any tips to settle him before my dressage class? The ring is outdoors next to a forest
Plan your warmup. Suit up and travel to the showgrounds before your show and also take him shows without showing. Warmup there too. We have several young horses that we take around alot. Really helps. Happy trails!
What type of fly spray would you advise me to get?
This sounds silly but different areas have different flies. Check the ingredients. I boarded in 2 different barns and had to change fly spray brands. Currently I use Farnams Tri Tec 14. I need waterproof and sweatproof. I use SWAT cream around ears and for trail rides. I use Pyranha for horse shows cause it puts a mirror shine on my black horse and protects him too.
What are your advice for slowing the pace of a thoroughbred ? I am using a regular snaffle and half halts, but doesn't help.
Wonderful advice from everyone. Our barn retrained OTTB’s into H/J’s. Long process of an extended pasture break then started from scratch all the while teaching them relaxation. All of which was against their nature from track training. Some training days were halted and became relaxation training days. You have you have their mind and their trust and they can be taught how to manage their anxiety. Cannot rush them in any capacity at any time. I also had bombproofing days that were slowwww. We would suit up and travel to shows and just hang out all day. Zero pressure. Happy trails
