What are your advice to improve your position while cantering? My canter is always so messy, I lean forward, move too much with the horse etc
Move with the horse is good that means you are letting the movement through. Start sitting deep without stirrups. A dressage saddle will teach you because if you don't sit properly you feel really u comfortable, if you sit good is a pleasure. Start backing yourself over vertical in transitions and hold ypur body tight on to lower paces transitions. No stirrups. Just canter the few steps you can hold on property. And increase that steps with time. Better a good straight line than 2 messy rounds in canter. Keep your knees and calls squeezing the horse to balance yourself.
How do you know which discipline you have to train your horse for? I just posted a picture of a horse and I was wondering what should he be trained as, in english
Start witg flatwork some poles and some hacks with small osbtacles. Also gates to open or between trees. He'll tell ypu with time what he enjoys to do. I had big pedigree dressagers became jumpers and big pedigree jumpers became dressagers. Not because you have a quarter horse means western or a thoroughbred racing.
Do you have advice for a horse that instead of going forward when asked to, goes backwards? We also can’t use a crop on him.
When he does it. Put him on a circle. Finish that circle make him.walk few steps forward. Again the circle. Small circles of 8 m. And eventually make them.biguer. till you are able to do half arena 20m circle. Then try a figure of 8. Good luck.
