What is a good saddle to fit a high long wither (shark fin)? For jumping / eventing, it's for a growing thoroughbred.
especially if your horse is most definitely still growing i would buy a used jump/event saddle for the mean time because you don’t wanna buy something SUPER expensive just for them to grow out of it and not be able to ride in it. Or if you’re looking for something not used, hire a saddle fitter to measure you and your horse and get a saddle with an adjustable gullet so you can change it as your horse changes. now for brands i can’t exactly help on because i’m so sad with saddle brands but i know that some HDR saddles have adjustments you can make on them, bates saddles can be changed, then there’s m. toulouse and pessoa.
What are techniques to bring up a young horse for show jumping?
hi kate! for young horses being taught for show jumping i would definitely start with pole work like walk/trot over poles then i’d start them over cross rails then as they excel with that i would start doing gymnastic grids and jumping as big as 2’ , maybe? that’s my opinion but that’s just what i had to do, 2ft is not exactly big but if you’re starting a young horse i probably wouldn’t go higher than that depending where they’re at obviously and that’s your decision to go higher or not! but then as your horse succeeds more and more set up jump courses and see where that goes! hope that helped! :)
How do you get a horse on the bridle? My trainer can get a little annoyed when I can’t get a horse on the bridle but I’m too scared to ask. Thank you!
i was always taught to get your horse forward and moving first and it was hard for me because my horse was already so speedy so it was hard to keep it together but when i got him forward i was taught to “massage the tongue” it sounds weird but it’s basically half halting both the inside and outside rein but you need contact with the outside rein and to soften the inside to keep him there and when you massage the tongue enough to where they will come done that’s when you soften the inside while keeping contact with the outside!
How can I prove that I'm worthy of a job at my stable?
hi kennedy, i would say for the most part always be willing and loyal to whatever job you get at the stable and i’d you really wanna be worthy then just be open to possibly doing extra at times! :) hoped that help!
Do you have advice to calm down a pony who rushes her trot after canter? My pony tends to get hot when we canter and it takes me ages to calm her down into a soft trot again.
hi chloe, my horse is sorta similar to yours, what i would do is before we do anything like trot or canter we would do a lot of halt to backup transitions and then walk to halt work and a lot of circles and then work our way up to a trot and do like trot to walk to back up and trot circles and same thing with the canter. you want to have a connection with your horse and get them listening to you which is the reason for all the transitions is to get their mind working and engaging with what you’re asking. that usually worked for me and lunging them before you ride is very useful too. hope it helped :)
