What horse related thing can you not live without?
I ride this horse who keeps his head and neck low and extended & canter rocks very far forward and I loose balance because i feel like i'm going forward and can't control him ! What can I do ?
It sounds like he is built downhill, and forcing his head up won't help. Let him put his neck where it comfortable, but keep him on the bit. Keep your hands up and together and keep a steady contact on the bit. Don't yank or force him up with your hands. When he puts his head down and gets away from the contact, you need to learn to get strong and be able to push your heels down and sit yourself in the tack and bring him back to the contact. As you get more and more and more used to him it will get easier or more normal.
What is the difference between hunter and jumpers and showjumpers?
Showjumping is based on how quick a rider and horse can jump a course and leave all the jumps up. The winning team is the team with the least faults (accumulated by knocking rails or going over the time limit) and the quickest time. Hunter jumper is scored on how effortless the round looked. The round flow, all jumps be the same, you must get your lead changes, and maintaining a consistant pace is important. Hunter judges typically like hunter horses that have a good jump and tuck their knees up, as well as having a pleasant expression the whole time.
Does anyone have tips for staying cool while riding/at the barn? I sometimes even get kind of dizzy because I get so hot.
Drink lots and lots of water, if possible ride when it is later and cooler, take breaks while riding and stay in the shade, make sure to wear ventilating clothing.
