What can i do to get over my fear of jumping Oxers? I fell off into an oxer and I never tried it ever again
I had a fear of oxers until recently. I’d suggest starting with smaller oxers, such as ones at cross rail and low vertical heights and just practice those untilyou feel comfortable. Then gradually raise the height and width of the jumps, getting comfortable over each size. Don’t push yourself too hard that you completely lose confidence over them but push yourself a little bit so you are able to work through it. I hope this is helpful and good luck!
What’s your warm up times: how long do you spend walking, trotting and cantering? :)
If the horse is in good shape and the weather isn’t cold, I typically do about one full loop around the arena on each leg and then trot for 10-15 minutes before cantering. If it’s colder or the horse isn’t in shape, extra time should be given to walk and trot so they are warmed up prop
If you could have any horse or breed, what would it be?
How to build a horse's confidence over the jumps?
What I’ve been working on lately with the same problem is providing gentle contact with the horse’s mouth during the last strides leading up to the jump while simultaneously applying leg. The contact assures the horse that you are with them and will support them, and the leg ensures that the horse knows you want them to continue at pace. Good luck!
