What is the easiest way to teach a pony to bow without ropes?
Hi Suzanne, I taught my horse by using his love for treats! I would hold a carrot between his forelegs, and every time I held it a little lower until he understood. After that I combined it with touching/pushing his belly with my hand, until he understood the aid completely without the carrot 😊 watch out your horse won't bend in the knees, this is bad for their joints and tendons.
For which equipments are you ready to pay more (saddle, bit, helmet...)?
I'm willing to pay more for quality, safety, and sustainability. A good fitting helmet, quality leather and stitching in tack, that sort of thing 😁 rather buy a more expensive, good quality bridle than a cheap one with poor leather that breaks after a year.
Do you first have to start show jumping before you do eventing?
In my country you have to pass the basic level dressage test before you can start showjumping, and have to pass the basic level showjumping course before you can start eventing. This is to make sure you can control your horse in dressage before you jump, and can control your horse and guide it around a course before you bring it into eventing/ cross country. Once you passed them you don't have to redo it when you have a new horse.
Is 35 x 20 too small to do jumping in ?
Hello Amori, I think it should be fine, just make sure the footing is alright for jumping and you limit the amount of jumps. It's nice to set up jumps you can jump in two directions, that way you can jump a small course without overflowing the arena 😁
Do you know special exercises for the horse's back muscles?
Hi Timea, you could try trotting poles while lunging or riding. Start with just a few if your horse isn't uses to trotting poles, and work your way up to more poles (if they are available). Next you can raise the poles a little.
What is the best treatment for scratches? My horse has had a severe case of scratches for over a month. I have tried everything, even vet-prescribed creams!
Hello Paige, my horse suffers from severe scratches every year or so. I wrap the leg with Socatyl paste under a bandage, it's an anti inflammatory. Here we can only get it from the vet, if you haven't tried it it's worth to give it a shot. I also give him cubarmix powder (antibiotic) when it gets too severe. I hope your horse gets better soon!
What is the best brand of deodorant to use when being in the heat/riding and doing barn chores?
Hi Abby, I use a brand called Thermè, a roll on for sensitive skin. For me it really works a lot, more than other brands I tried. I also think the roll ons work a bit better than the sprays!
